Review standards

TowCapacityCalc content is written and reviewed by the TowCapacityCalc Editorial Team. Articles and tools are reviewed for clarity, calculation consistency, source alignment, and visible safety disclaimers before publication.

We avoid invented expert names, fake credentials, fake reviews, and unsupported certification claims. Where a claim depends on laws or safety guidance, the page should point readers toward official manufacturer, NHTSA, FMCSA, state DOT, DMV, or statutory sources.

What every towing page must do

Towing advice can affect safety, so every guide and calculator is expected to make the user more capable of checking the real vehicle rather than simply trusting a single advertised tow rating.

  • Explain whether the page is using tow rating, payload, GVWR, GAWR, GCWR, or hitch load.
  • Remind readers that door-jamb labels and owner manuals override generic examples.
  • Use loaded trailer weight when discussing tongue weight, pin weight, and GCWR.
  • Separate educational planning ranges from manufacturer or legal requirements.
  • Point users toward scale tickets when estimated margins are small.

How updates happen

Pages are revisited when calculator behavior changes, when new towing guides or safety information are added, when users report unclear wording, or when search data shows that a page is not answering the actual intent behind a query.

High-risk topics such as trailer brakes, state towing laws, payload overload, and fifth-wheel pin weight get stricter review because a wrong shortcut can create an unsafe setup.

What we avoid publishing

We do not publish invented vehicle limits, copied manufacturer tables without context, legal advice presented as a substitute for official state sources, or claims that a device can increase manufacturer ratings.

When a setup depends on trim, axle ratio, cab, drivetrain, package, wheelbase, tire, or hitch class, the page should tell users which rating still needs verification.

Corrections

Towing specifications and state laws can change. If you find an outdated rating, broken source, or unclear calculator assumption, contact us with the vehicle configuration, source URL, and the specific page that needs review.

Calculator results are estimates. Users must verify door-jamb labels, owner manuals, hitch labels, tire ratings, and scale weights before towing.
